WWII Collins 18 V-44 Survival Knife
WWII Collins Legitimus No. 18 V-44 Survival Knife. These knifes lineage began with the 2nd Raider Bn. in 1942 who procured 1000 of these knives before their departure to the Pacific. These knives proved to be an useful and effective Service issue knife in the harsh Pacific jungle environment. Early in 1943 they became standard issue aboard aircraft for survival purposes. This knife displays pitting on the blade, while the tang is unbent and the black handle is free of cracks or repairs. This is a unique example because it only displays 4 rivets. Typically these knives had 5 or 3 rivets. Most definitely saw service in the Pacific and is a wonderful example for display purposes.
